Claim-level official-source review

Money and payments in Thailand: cash, cards, ATMs and exchange

Build payment resilience without freezing a rate, fee or acceptance promise into a travel page. Use Bank of Thailand sources for regulation and reference data, then check the actual provider and card issuer before a transaction.

Use a licensed foreign-exchange provider

The Bank of Thailand says foreign-currency purchases, sales, exchanges and transfers should be conducted through licensed persons, including authorised banks, money changers and transfer agents. This is regulatory orientation, not a provider recommendation.

Evidence: Bank of Thailand exchange-control regulation

Source scope: Central-bank regulatory orientation; not personalized currency-control, tax or transaction advice.

Check the current authorised money-changer register

The Bank of Thailand publishes an authorised money-changer list. The file checked on 24 August 2026 is dated 31 July 2026 and records licence, legal-entity and head-office information; it does not prove a branch is open, stocked or offering a particular rate.

Evidence: Bank of Thailand authorised money-changer list

Source scope: Dated official licence register; branch operation, inventory, rate and service quality remain unverified.

Official exchange-rate data is not a retail quote

The Bank of Thailand publishes daily foreign-exchange statistics and commercial-bank average histories. Those reference data do not establish the cash, ATM, card-network or dynamic-conversion rate an individual traveler will receive.

Evidence: Bank of Thailand daily foreign-exchange rates

Source scope: Official reference and statistical data; not a live retail transaction quote.

Bank of Thailand publishes banknote recognition checks

The Bank of Thailand's public banknote guidance uses feel, look and tilt checks to explain security features. It is recognition guidance, not a guarantee about a particular note or an allegation of counterfeiting.

Evidence: Bank of Thailand banknote security features

Source scope: Public banknote-recognition guidance; not an authenticity ruling for a particular note.
